Jinglefest is the annual winter festival focussed on the Dibbleville area of Fenton, Michigan. Many Christmas activities were conducted through this festive past weekend. This footage from FentonSays.com highlights the ice sculptures of the generous sponsors who help finance the annual Jinglefest.

Little Caesars can be found at 1437 N Leroy Street in Fenton. Their unique value proposition to the fast food world of pizza sales is their “Hot N Ready” pizza deal. In Fenton (prices advertised on TV for other locations are slightly higher), for $5 plus tax, you can walk out of their store with a steaming hot, large pepperoni and cheese pizza pie! And for five bucks, this is a great pizza. For a few dollars more you can get a custom pizza from Little Caesars, or any of their competitors, really. But for $5, and a quick in-and-out trip, this is a great deal! Pick up yours today.

Cottage Inn will be the one to beat considering both value and taste. Here we examine their traditional crust pizza, square deep dish crust pizza and Cottage Inn sticks. All three were delicious. If you live in or around the Fenton, Michigan area you are sure to love the delivery service from Cottage Inn.

O’Dolley’s, formerly known as Bubba O’Dooley’s, previously known as The Heritage, has one fine burger. Found at 1243 North Leroy Street in Fenton, Michigan this formerly breakfast diner turned Irish pub knows its way around a ground beef patty. We’re not terribly impressed with the value of many of the food items on this menu, however you won’t go wrong with their cheeseburgers and fries.

This is the first entry into the FentonSays.com Pizza Playoffs. We call this the “Special Teams” because it is the kick-off, and because we are featuring the stromboli (not really pizza) from the Fenton House. If there is any question, you can put them to rest … this stromboli is folded pizza from heaven!
The bread/crust is warm and tender. A single stromboli really is enough for two people to eat, but it’s more fun to have leftovers to take home for later. Only $7.95 plus tax and gratuity gets you this delicious stromboli with three fillings. The sauce is served cold, so we would recommend asking for it to be heated when ordering.
It is located in the Dibbleville area of Fenton at 413 South Leroy Street. We’ll get back to their delicious pizza during the playoffs, but their stromboli is nothing short of amazing! They are presently rebuilding and remodeling the exterior, but they are certainly open for business. The exterior will look completely different than it does in our video. FentonSays says that you won’t go wrong with taking a meal at the Fenton House.

Halloween is reported as being the second most decorated holiday (next to Christmas) in the United States. Fenton, Michigan is no different. The Chamber of Commerce coordinated about forty local businesses to participate in a trick-or-treat session starting at 1:00 PM on Halloween this year. Many of the businesses also participated in a Scarecrow Contest where the local businesses were invited to create a scarecrow that tied in with their particular business.
So on Halloween Day, we drove through much of town looking for these novel scarecrows. And we found a number of them. By no means are we claiming to have found each and every one of them, so to the extent that we missed some, we know and didn’t mean it as a slight. We did call the Chamber of Commerce to find out if any winners had been chosen, and as of Halloween Day none had been selected.
If we missed any of the Scarecrow Contest participants, please feel free to mention this in the comment section or in our discussion forums. We did capture the scarecrows from Sagebrush Cantina, the Fenton United Methodist Church, Chase Bank, Jet’s Pizza, Fenton Glass, Kimberly Kay Furniture, Fenton Home Furnishings and Harris Financial Corporation.

There once was a property in Fenton across the street from the Middle School. In my day there was a Rollerama roller skating rink that was immensely popular. In more recent years, Serendipity ran a successful flower and fruit and fresh produce market. Of course, Wash King was the local laundry mat in Fenton operating that entire time. Now it is just an empty space and parking lot frequented by skateboarders (at least someone is getting good use out of it).
This property across the street from what is now known as FIS (Fenton Intermediate School) is all but abandoned. The parking lot is cracked an in need of repair. Debris collects in the corner of the lots. Graffiti poses as art on the neglected building. There was rumor that this property would be developed into condominiums with medium to upscale shopping. After vacating the property, the developers must have had their second thoughts. This is such a prime location; it is a shame that it isn’t being put to better use.

Legend’s Tavern & Pizzeria, located not far east off the Thompson Rd exit of US-23 has a real contender in their bacon cheeseburger for Burger Battle champion. Great value for the money and very tasty. The fries were nothing to write home about, but the burger can stand on it’s own. We are also unsure why the mushroom and swiss burger was a dollar more than the bacon cheeseburger. If you’re in the mood for a great burger, you won’t go wrong at Legend’s.

Great Lakes Family Restaurant is a wonderful family diner with very reasonable prices, fast and friendly service. The Flame used to operate out of this location many years ago. We’d recommend adding their slaw and fries to your burger order for only $1.85 more. It’s a lot of good food for the money.

Probably better known for their blues and BBQ’s, Beale Street has one mean burger. Located adjacent to the gas station on the corner of Torrey and North Road (Exit 80 off of US-23), this is a treat to find. Occasional live blues music is the cherry on top of this Memphis barbecue restaurant.
Crinkle-cut steak fries accent the juicy Beale St burger with a taste so mouth watering you’d think you’ve headed to a southern backyard picnic. Three savory BBQ sauces man every station, and makes for a great ketchup substitute and southern tangy taste treat.

FentonSays.com is a fan of the Spicer Orchards Farm Market & Cider Mill found east on Clyde Road from US-23 in Fenton, Michigan. They have free hay rides to the orchard to pick apples every weekend during the fall. During the week you can drive your car right up to the trees. And of course they have plenty of fresh produce, doughnuts, cider and other fresh foods.

Fenton, like most other towns in America, has a Burger King. Actually, Fenton has at least two Burger King stores that come to mind in the Fenton area. Did we really believe that Burger King could topple the current Burger Battle champion? Nope. But we do think they have a good value proposition going with the $1.00 Whopper Junior.
If we had to choose between the McDonald’s double cheeseburger for a buck or a Whopper Junior for the same price, we’d have to go with Burger King. The fresh topping and flame broiled taste just makes for a better value burger (I can’t believe I’m choosing lettuce, tomato and onion over a slice of processed cheese).

FentonSays reader, Kent, shares with us his video montage of the the August 24th storm from neighboring Eaton County. Though not specific to Fenton, Michigan, this piece is still important as it captures the devastation we in south east Michigan experienced on that day. It is during times like these that neighbors pull together for the greater common good. And it is in this light that the storm and periodic tornadoes of 8/24/07 produced heroes more so than tragedies.
“This is a compilation video of the area where my daughter and son-in-law live. Her house is the one with the trees laying on it. They were home with their 6 year old daughter when the tornado hit. No injuries. They live just north of Charlotte MI. Kent”
Today marks the sixth year since the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Many lives were lost that day. Many lives have been lost since seeking justice. Brave men and women of the New Greatest Generation continue to put their own lives at risk to help spread freedom and promote stability around the world. Regardless of your own political affiliations, we ask that you take a just a minute for a moment of silence today to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom.
The Michigan Renaissance Festival is still open on weekends throughout the month of September. Located in neighboring Holly, Michigan, the Michigan Renaissance Festival offers a unique form of entertainment. Shops and plays galore, but don’t forget the games!
One sinisterly difficult challenge is the Jacob’s Ladder. Climb to the top, ring the bell and win both glory and a prize. It is a short ladder. So it shouldn’t be too difficult, right? WRONG! This challenge takes great coordination, balance and skill. But it sure is a lot of fun, even if you fail.

Applebee’s is located in the Silver Lake Parkway area of Fenton. We’re huge fans of the riblets and rarely end up on the short end of the stick on “All you can eat riblets” night. You can expect the standard American menu fair at this national chain. Their Angus burgers are no exception.
Although the Bruschetta Burger was the most unique item in the burger section of the Applebee’s menu, we decided to give the 100% Angus Bacon Cheeseburger a try. The premium bun was hearty enough to stand up to a juicy burger, but still soft and fresh. We have to admit that this being a chain restaurant burger, we discounted it slightly in the rankings. That being said, you certainly won’t go wrong ordering up an Applebee’s burger if you are in the mood for a good one.

The still shot to the left was taken from “The Streets of Fenton” video series shot on July 11, 2007 … weeks before the tornado struck. The picture is of the front of the Community Center with the building off camera to the right. Notice all the lush trees on the horizon on the right. They are now gone.
This video footage presented below was shot on Friday, August 31, 2007 out front of the Community Center in Fenton, MI. Clean up efforts from the tornado continue, but the town has been returned to basically normal status. The area by the Shiawassee River on the south side of the Community Center used to be covered in trees, but is an open clearing now. People work on top of the Community Center. Heavy equipment is being used.
This is the first footage we took right after the storm and tornadoes blew through town. Many of the downed power lines were already being sectioned off and traffic being re-routed, however we somehow managed to work our way northbound through Dibbleville into downtown Fenton, Michigan. We started to catch quick video clips here and there when the magnitude of the devastation started to become apparent.
This two minute and ten second video is a clip montage of the first part of the aftermath of the Fenton tornadoes of 2007. This footage was taken roughly after 6:00 p.m. on the evening of August 24, 2007.
Work crews continue clean up effort in Fenton, Michigan today after a tornado ripped through parts of town the evening of August 24, 2007. In this special edition of the “Streets of Fenton” video tour, we are showing footage of South Adelaide on the day after the tornado. We start up around the Fenton Intermediary School (FIS) and continue south through the corner where the French Laundry and Rockwell are, then almost up to High Street.
We also wanted to share with you some photos by Art Parnell that we found posted at another web site.
