Anyone who has been to Fenton, Michigan knows that the premier family destination is Uncle Ray’s Dairyland. It’s a micro-creamery chock full of tasty homemade ice cream treats. Uncle Ray’s recently put some major funding into an outdoor renovation that’ll extend Fentonite’s outdoor ice cream eating season by a couple of months. Uncle Ray’s Dairyland reopened on Valentine’s Day, probably because people love it so much.

What is Extreme Athletic Training?

Extreme Athletic Training in Fenton
Extreme Athletic training is about closing the gap between average results and extraordinary results. Developing and building a body that is not only aesthetic but extremely athletic as well.

I am sure some of you reading this are saying “I don’t care about being functional or being able to leap over tall buildings in a single bound”. But what if I were to tell you there is a training tool that would give you the “look” you want but also give you a body that is performance charged – strong, energetic, flexible and athletic – without any extra time/stuff added? Actually, it would reduce the time you spend in the gym and trust me on this one – there is a unique confidence that comes with having a physique that not only looks good but is capable.

Interested? I was and that is exactly the reason I started Kettlebell training. I have been involved in the martial arts and various athletics for 22 years. I have always been on the look out for something that would make me punch/kick harder, last longer and be more athletic. Kettlebells provided the answer.

Extreme Athletic training is about closing the gap between average results and extraordinary results. Developing and building a body that is not only aesthetic but extremely athletic as well.

The exercises you do with a Kettlebell are full body movements and thus provide all around conditioning. That is why you spend less time in the gym. You can work your entire body with k-bell exercises in 20-40 min or you can spend hours in the gym trying to work each individual muscle group in isolation. Furthermore, think about it, in what real world situation or athletic activity do your individual muscle groups work in isolation?

In addition to shortening your time in the gym and requiring your body to work as a unit, Kettlebell exercises also require you to balance yourself without the assistance of typical gym machines that do it for you. The benefit – your body becomes “intelligent/connected” and more resistant to injury.

Still not sold? Okay, full body exercises have been shown over and over to burn more fat and build more muscle than any isolation movement in existence. So again, you can have the body you want and have the performance enhancement as a nice benefit in the background.

I look forward to training with you!!

All the best,
Ken Blackburn
American Kettlebell Club Coach

New Environmentally Friendly Service in Fenton Michigan – Can Do Returnables

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Born From Sheer Laziness and Disgust

We admit it. We hate taking back Michigan returnable cans and bottles. But it is good for the environment and keeps our streets clean. So it is a good thing. And we have no choice but to take them back to get our can or bottle deposits back. Or do we?

We remember a simpler time. A time before the returnable kiosks in the neighborhood grocery stores. A time when we could simply take in a bag or cart full of cans, tell the man behind the counter how many we had, and walk off with our hard earned money back in our own pockets. A time when an eager high school student would process our messy cans and bottles for us. But those times are gone. Or are they?

We despised the dirty looks from the other people, as grumpy as we were about this chore, when we would finally get around to carting in those sacks full of sticky, smelly cans and bottles. We detest the boring monotony of feeding one can at a time into those dirty kiosks. You are already in the grocery store, but who wants to shop for food after handling all those potentially germ-ridden returnables?

The Right Idea at the Right Time

You know you don’t like taking those cans and bottles back any more than do we. So what can you do about that? Hire Can-Do Returnables to do your dirty work!

That’s right. We will free you up from that awful chore. You can once again have a garage clear of all those nasty returnables. And the best part is, you don’t have to do it yourself. Why hadn’t anyone thought of this sooner? It doesn’t matter anymore because this service is available to you now. All you have to do is click on the order button. That’s it. No more messy cans and bottles. No more carting off all those returnables back to the store. Just click the order button, tell us where you are and when you’d like for us to come get them, and we’ll handle the rest!

Too Good to be True?

You know the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. Well this idea is too good not to be true. Someone really should have thought about this idea a long time ago. Want to know more? Click on the details button to get more information on how this exciting service can work for you!

Does Your Charity, Church or Club Need a Novel Fundraiser?

Can-Do Returnables can be used as an easy and excellent fundraiser for your charity, church or club. You tell your members. We do all the dirty work. Click on the charity button to find out how you can donate your proceeds to your favorite charity. Or click on the fundraiser button to find out how you can unleash the power of Can-Do Returnables to put dollars into your coffers.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #12 — TeeBone’Z

Friday, January 4th, 2008

This is the twelfth entry into the Burger Battle on FentonSays.com as part of the “Eats of Fenton” video series. TeeBone’z is just over the railroad tracks off of Silver Lake Road in Fenton, Michigan. We’ve generally not been thrilled with the service here, but on this day the service was perfect. And the burger, well, the burger was absolutely amazing! One half pounder stacked with great toppings, and for a couple of bucks more you can get it with a side of onion rings. In our experience, it is hard to find perfect onion rings. TeeBone’Z had them! Perfect, golden, crispy onion rings where the onion doesn’t pull out and slap you on the lip when you bite into them. We featured their half pound burger, but we also have a quick clip of their version of a “slider.” It was all good. You’ll enjoy this!

Help AFP Fight Higher Taxes in Michigan!

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Hundreds of taxpayers descended on the Michigan State Capitol on April 18, 2007, for a rally cosponsored by Americans for Prosperity. Here is their YouTube video highlighting the demonstration in Lansing and the numerous job killing taxes that have been imposed on the citizenry.

Don’t fall prey to the slimy political rhetoric claiming that a “property tax shift” isn’t a tax increase. Don’t fall for the lies that Granholm will raise taxes on the corporations so the citizens don’t have to pick up the tab (that’s not how pricing works, the purchasers of products and services here in Michigan ultimately pay for the tax in the pricing of the goods or services). Don’t roll over and accept the new service tax that was passed in near secrecy in the middle of the night (and wasn’t our Governor talking about a 2% service tax, yet the politicians passed a 6% tax plan?).

Businesses create jobs. Plain and simple. Jobs pay people. People who get paid have money to pay their bills and stay where they live. Kill the jobs, stop the paychecks, force people to move to find employment. It’s Economics 101. We must break the cycle of dependency … of the State Government. We must embrace policies that foster job creation and economic growth.

To join AFP’s fight for lower taxes and less wasteful government spending in Michigan and around the country, visit www.AFPMI.com or www.AmericansForProsperity.org.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #11 — O’Dooley’s

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

O’Dolley’s, formerly known as Bubba O’Dooley’s, previously known as The Heritage, has one fine burger. Found at 1243 North Leroy Street in Fenton, Michigan this formerly breakfast diner turned Irish pub knows its way around a ground beef patty. We’re not terribly impressed with the value of many of the food items on this menu, however you won’t go wrong with their cheeseburgers and fries.

This is entry number eleven in the FentonSays.com Burger Battle. The featured video tour will give you a flavor for all of the good eats available to residents and visitors of Fenton, Michigan. FentonSays Pizza Playoffs – Fenton House – Special Teams Stromboli

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

This is the first entry into the FentonSays.com Pizza Playoffs. We call this the “Special Teams” because it is the kick-off, and because we are featuring the stromboli (not really pizza) from the Fenton House. If there is any question, you can put them to rest … this stromboli is folded pizza from heaven!

The bread/crust is warm and tender. A single stromboli really is enough for two people to eat, but it’s more fun to have leftovers to take home for later. Only $7.95 plus tax and gratuity gets you this delicious stromboli with three fillings. The sauce is served cold, so we would recommend asking for it to be heated when ordering.

It is located in the Dibbleville area of Fenton at 413 South Leroy Street. We’ll get back to their delicious pizza during the playoffs, but their stromboli is nothing short of amazing! They are presently rebuilding and remodeling the exterior, but they are certainly open for business. The exterior will look completely different than it does in our video. FentonSays says that you won’t go wrong with taking a meal at the Fenton House.

The Fenton Hotel in the Older Days

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

The following is an excerpt from the book “The Village Players” republished with permission from the Fenton author, Robert G. Harris. If you would like to purchase the complete 307 paged book, with over 60 photos, you can find it at the Lil Professor Book Store, Fenton Basket or the Fenton Museum in Fenton, Michigan. This book is a narrative history of the Village of Fenton, 1937-1941.

Highway route US 23 ran directly through the town from north to south before veering to the southwest and becoming the road to Hartland. There was a flow of vehicles moving through downtown most of the time. It seemed to only become a “problem” on football Saturdays at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, some forty miles to the south. On these fall Saturdays, the vehicular traffic through town was “bumper to bumper” for several hours before game time and for several hours after the end of the game.

No one prospered more from this heavy traffic moving through town than Art Dumanois, proprietor the historic Fenton Hotel. Many of the football fans either stopped at the Hotel on the way to the game or on their way home. The Fenton Hotel became a popular place to stop for a pre-game lunch or for dinner following the game. Since Art Dumanois held the only “liquor by the bottle” license in town, those who were interested in having a “nip or two” during the game found the hotel a convenient place to purchase their “liquid” refreshments. Some jokesters suggested that half of the empty bottles which littered the UM stadium following a game came from the Fenton Hotel.

Fenton Gets Into The Spirit of Halloween with a Scarecrow Contest

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Halloween is reported as being the second most decorated holiday (next to Christmas) in the United States. Fenton, Michigan is no different. The Chamber of Commerce coordinated about forty local businesses to participate in a trick-or-treat session starting at 1:00 PM on Halloween this year. Many of the businesses also participated in a Scarecrow Contest where the local businesses were invited to create a scarecrow that tied in with their particular business.

So on Halloween Day, we drove through much of town looking for these novel scarecrows. And we found a number of them. By no means are we claiming to have found each and every one of them, so to the extent that we missed some, we know and didn’t mean it as a slight. We did call the Chamber of Commerce to find out if any winners had been chosen, and as of Halloween Day none had been selected.

If we missed any of the Scarecrow Contest participants, please feel free to mention this in the comment section or in our discussion forums. We did capture the scarecrows from Sagebrush Cantina, the Fenton United Methodist Church, Chase Bank, Jet’s Pizza, Fenton Glass, Kimberly Kay Furniture, Fenton Home Furnishings and Harris Financial Corporation.
