Uncle Ray's Dairyland

Uncle Ray's Dairyland

Uncle Ray’s Dairyland of Fenton is named one of the top 10 ice cream places in all of Michigan.  See the video clips of the featured segments on ABC local channel 12 where Dave Durant and Todd Durant whip up some interesting flavor combinations for Mark.

The coffee and doughnut ice cream was a hit!  The strawberry and chocolate covered bacon ice cream was an acquired taste.  And although a deluxe olive burger from Halo Burger is yummy delicious on it’s own, this was the least favorite of the unique flavor combinations explored by Channel 12 news.   The yummiest and most visually appealing, however, must have been the “fried egg on toast” breakfast treat.  See for yourself with the video links above.

Uncle Ray’s Dairlyand is slated to produce a 175 foot banana split at Fenton’s 175th birthday celebration later on this summer.

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Wow!  Nearly 5,000 calories in this gigantic ballpark food item called the Fifth Third Burger at the Whitecaps home field in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 17 are reported to have finished the entire burger themselves and won a t-shirt (is a t-shirt really worth indigestion?).  See the video!!

Virtual Video Tour “The Eats of Fenton” Burger Battle #13 — Buffalo Wild Wings

Monday, May 12th, 2008

This is the thirteenth entry into the Burger Battle on FentonSays.com as part of the “Eats of Fenton” video series. Buffalo Wild Wings (formerly known as BW3) on Silver Lake Road in Fenton, Michigan is known for their sports bar atmosphere and kickin’ buffalo style chicken wings. The sauce selection is fantastic, and their burgers are pretty good, too.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #12 — TeeBone’Z

Friday, January 4th, 2008

This is the twelfth entry into the Burger Battle on FentonSays.com as part of the “Eats of Fenton” video series. TeeBone’z is just over the railroad tracks off of Silver Lake Road in Fenton, Michigan. We’ve generally not been thrilled with the service here, but on this day the service was perfect. And the burger, well, the burger was absolutely amazing! One half pounder stacked with great toppings, and for a couple of bucks more you can get it with a side of onion rings. In our experience, it is hard to find perfect onion rings. TeeBone’Z had them! Perfect, golden, crispy onion rings where the onion doesn’t pull out and slap you on the lip when you bite into them. We featured their half pound burger, but we also have a quick clip of their version of a “slider.” It was all good. You’ll enjoy this!

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #11 — O’Dooley’s

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

O’Dolley’s, formerly known as Bubba O’Dooley’s, previously known as The Heritage, has one fine burger. Found at 1243 North Leroy Street in Fenton, Michigan this formerly breakfast diner turned Irish pub knows its way around a ground beef patty. We’re not terribly impressed with the value of many of the food items on this menu, however you won’t go wrong with their cheeseburgers and fries.

This is entry number eleven in the FentonSays.com Burger Battle. The featured video tour will give you a flavor for all of the good eats available to residents and visitors of Fenton, Michigan. Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #10 — Legend’s

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Legend’s Tavern & Pizzeria, located not far east off the Thompson Rd exit of US-23 has a real contender in their bacon cheeseburger for Burger Battle champion. Great value for the money and very tasty. The fries were nothing to write home about, but the burger can stand on it’s own. We are also unsure why the mushroom and swiss burger was a dollar more than the bacon cheeseburger. If you’re in the mood for a great burger, you won’t go wrong at Legend’s.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #09 — Great Lakes Family Restaurant

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Great Lakes Family Restaurant is a wonderful family diner with very reasonable prices, fast and friendly service. The Flame used to operate out of this location many years ago. We’d recommend adding their slaw and fries to your burger order for only $1.85 more. It’s a lot of good food for the money.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #08 — Beale Street

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Probably better known for their blues and BBQ’s, Beale Street has one mean burger. Located adjacent to the gas station on the corner of Torrey and North Road (Exit 80 off of US-23), this is a treat to find. Occasional live blues music is the cherry on top of this Memphis barbecue restaurant.

Crinkle-cut steak fries accent the juicy Beale St burger with a taste so mouth watering you’d think you’ve headed to a southern backyard picnic. Three savory BBQ sauces man every station, and makes for a great ketchup substitute and southern tangy taste treat.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #07 — Burger King

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Fenton, like most other towns in America, has a Burger King. Actually, Fenton has at least two Burger King stores that come to mind in the Fenton area. Did we really believe that Burger King could topple the current Burger Battle champion? Nope. But we do think they have a good value proposition going with the $1.00 Whopper Junior.

If we had to choose between the McDonald’s double cheeseburger for a buck or a Whopper Junior for the same price, we’d have to go with Burger King. The fresh topping and flame broiled taste just makes for a better value burger (I can’t believe I’m choosing lettuce, tomato and onion over a slice of processed cheese).

This is entry number seven in the FentonSays.com Burger Battle. The featured video tour will give you a flavor for all of the good eats available to residents and visitors of Fenton, Michigan. Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #06 — Applebee’s

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Applebee’s is located in the Silver Lake Parkway area of Fenton. We’re huge fans of the riblets and rarely end up on the short end of the stick on “All you can eat riblets” night. You can expect the standard American menu fair at this national chain. Their Angus burgers are no exception.

Although the Bruschetta Burger was the most unique item in the burger section of the Applebee’s menu, we decided to give the 100% Angus Bacon Cheeseburger a try. The premium bun was hearty enough to stand up to a juicy burger, but still soft and fresh. We have to admit that this being a chain restaurant burger, we discounted it slightly in the rankings. That being said, you certainly won’t go wrong ordering up an Applebee’s burger if you are in the mood for a good one.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #05 — Lucky’s Steak House

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Lucky’s Steak House is located in the Silver Lake Parkway area of Fenton. They have some amazing, and quite filling, loaded cheese fries. The bread they bring to the table is absolutely wonderful. Their steaks may be a touch over-seasoned for some, but for most they are cooked to perfection.

Lucky’s Steak House in Fenton, Michigan knows their way around a big, juicy steak but do they know burgers? You bet! This bacon burger with cheddar is mouth watering good. Served up with a pickle and steak fries, this is one heckova lunch meal. You could almost skip the loaf of bread for the table, but we wouldn’t recommend it. Fenton is lucky to have a great burger like at Lucky’s.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #04 — The Penalty Box

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

The Penalty Box on Owen Road in Fenton, Michigan is known for their great sports bar atmosphere, cold drinks, tasty food and Detroit Red Wings’ memorabilia. They have some very nice burgers on the menu, too.

The most unique burger selection on the Penalty Box menu was their Blue Line Burger, so we went with this choice. Topped with crumbled blue cheese and crispy onion straws, this is one fine burger. Also weighing in at over one half pound, this burger didn’t seem quite as big as the last Burger Battle entry from Sagebrush Cantina. It is still plenty tasty and plenty filling however, and their fries also deserve an honorable mention.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #03 — Sagebrush Cantina

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Where is a good place to go and get a big tasty burger? At a mexican restaurant, of course! More widely known for their giant, three pound “Super Burritos” and complimentary tortilla chips with flavorful salsa, Sagebrush Cantina on Fenton Road in Fenton, Michigan serves up one mean burger.

The avacado burger was the most unique selection on the menu, and weighing in at over one half pound, this burger is sure to please a hearty appetite … especially if there was a refill or two on the tortilla chips and salsa. And for a mexican restaurant, they sure do know their way around a crispy french fry! Hamburguesa buena!

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #02 — McDonald’s

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Fenton, like most other towns in America, has a McDonalds. Actually, Fenton has at least three McDonald’s stores that come to mind in the Fenton area. Did we really believe that McDonald’s could topple the current Burger Battle champion, MoDoggie’s Bar & Grill? Nope. But we do think they have a good value proposition going with the $1.00 double cheeseburger.

The other reason we wanted to feature McDonald’s early in the Burger Battle is as a point of reference. Nearly everyone has at least seen, if not eaten, one of Ronald’s double cheeseburgers. When you see the double cheeseburger in my hand, and then you see other Burger Battle videos, it’ll give you a better idea as to the size and quality of the other entrants into FentonSays.com’s Fenton Burger Battle.

So sit back, relax and enjoy a virtual snack on FentonSays.com.

Virtual Video Tour "The Eats of Fenton" Burger Battle #01 — MoDoggie’s Bar & Grill

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

This is entry number one in the FentonSays.com Burger Battle, and also the first segment in the series “The Eats of Fenton.” The featured video tour will give you a flavor for all of the good eats available to residents and visitors of Fenton, Michigan. If you don’t agree with our assessment of the various meals to be featured, adding your comments and experiences to the bottom of these articles is greatly appreciated. Or head off to the FentonSays discussion forum and weigh in there.

Yes, I was surprised, too. MoDoggies has some awesome food! I always knew their beers were cold and refreshing, and their live bands are super rockin’ … but I totally underestimated the quality of their eats. We selected the MoDoggie’s burger because we know this is the one to beat. That’s not to say that we may not discover a superior burger in Fenton as we continue on with the FentonSays.com Burger Battle. It could happen. But we wanted to start the series with a very strong entrant.

MoDoggie’s has daily $5.00 lunch specials, which occasionally do include their “killer burgers” or even the close cousin, the patty melt. Their burger has a solid texture and a grilled or smokey taste. The buns are fresh and of premium quality. And the french fries … wow! We’ll focus on the burgers, but the fries do deserve an honorable mention. But even if not on special, you are still looking at the $5.00-$7.00 range for a good quality burger.
