Grade Realignment of Fenton Schools Proposal is Dead

A proposal to realign the Fenton School District’s grades into various school buildings has been defeated by a narrow vote of 4 to 3.  This proposal was lobbied quite diligently over the past year by Superintendent Peggy Yates, who was quoted in the Flint Journal as saying, “You always get something good out of everything,” she said. “They were absolutely wonderful people to work with on the committee.”

The vote was held at a meeting on April 7, 2008.  The community was sharply divided on the subject, as reflected in the narrow margin on the vote.  Voting against the proposed realignment were: Ken Elston, Lynn Hopper, Rick DesJardins and Ken Ellis. Voting for the proposed realignment were: President Dave Walker, Vice President Nora Kryza and Secretary Julie Steffey.
